About Us
In the Beginning
We hustled in markets in Bondi, then we launched in supermarkets in Malaysia! Thats quite the hustle we hear you say but there was a method in the madness. We believe that being close to our raw material source is really important for us.
We are proud to be beginning our Rainforest Alliance accreditation and understanding our local environment where many of our tea ingredients are grown enables us to ensure that our commitment to creating a sustainable supply chain as we grow.
The founder Ashleigh Cotterill from Northern Ireland met her business partner Liza Drew in Malaysia and she is ironically from both Northern Ireland and Malaysia!
Our Tea
Organically grown, the original loose leaf form is maintained within our teabags to ensure there is as little processing as possible. We use corn starch teabags – completely natural, biodegradable and they become shear when you pour hot or chilled water on them so you can see the natural organic tea ingredients inside.
Our specialised tea machine heat presses the teabags together so there is no glue involved and we made our packaging and branding so beautiful we knew we would never need to add a tag to every bag to remind you who we are.
We believe we created a better teabag for a better cup of tea.
Packaging & Sustainability
Every piece of our packaging artwork is hand drawn by Ashleigh so we like to think of Tea Bird Tea packaging as her canvas.
“My concept with the jungle ambience and birds is that I view them a bit like people and I love how they gather and like to chitter chat with each other, travel to work drink tea, have lunch, drink tea and come home and drink more tea. Just like our tea blends our birds and our customers have a morning, noon & night routine. I love to see the humour and joy of the details in day to day lives and for me I bring that out with the different types of birds and scenes we use on the packaging.”
Ashleigh Cotterill, Owner Founder Tea Bird Tea Many customers like to keep our tins and refill them using our refill packs. Some of our creative customers even like to give our tins a second life as a pencil case or money box.
Production
So our production factory is based in Johor south Malaysia, right next to Singapore and in the centre of SEA which makes it a great place to be able to export from.
We bring the raw materials from organic certified suppliers to our factory and blend on site.
We have a fulfilment house in Essex, UK which holds our stock for the UK - they are a happy bunch and always there to help. We are committed to selecting the greenest routes to ship while exporting and we currently ship to UK, Vietnam, Singapore, Japan and of course across Malaysia.
